BigTasteYYC - Yellow Door Bistro

YUM!

Big Taste YYC is a great Calgary dining event where restaurants put on special menus for lunch or dinner for extremely reasonable prices. There are also specialty dining events that look awesome but I have yet to attend any of those.

Each year I try and check a few restaurants off my list during Big Taste, since Calgary has a great food scene it can be hard to get through them all throughout the year and Big Taste is a great reason to get out there.

This year I went to Vintage Chophouse for lunch, Oceana and Yellow Door Bistro.

I had been wanting to try Yellow Door Bistro ever since I saw some popular Calgary bloggers review the media opening and I've really only heard positive things ever since.

We had a great time at Yellow Door Bistro, the service was excellent the perfect balance between attentive without being annoying, I felt that my patronage was well appreciated which is always nice when dining out.

Dinner Menu ($35)

Course 1
Cobb Salad
-tomato, blue cheese, avocado, bacon lardon, soft poached egg, dill buttermilk dressing

Yum, this salad was so good! I could have eaten much much more. I really loved the dill and the egg, it was a great way to start the meal. All of the girls I was with also agreed.

Course 2
Ewe-Nique Farms Lamb Pot-Au-Feu
-grilled sirloin, braised shank, fondant potato, horseradish cream

There was a second option of Arctic Char but everyone at my table picked the lamb and it was so good. Yummy broth that was poured over right at the table. Everyone one enjoyed it, the meat was done perfectly but the vegetables could have been cooked a touch more the potatoes and Brussels sprouts were a touch to crunchy but still enjoyable. Also one girl thought the potatoes were scallops and was a bit disappointed (haha)

Course 3
Gateau Basque
-saskatoon berry compote, amaretto chantilly

Dessert, my favorite course, I love dessert and it was great that this was a decent serving size but not to sweet or to heavy it was perfect. Everything worked together really well and I fully enjoyed every last bite.

I think my plate was completely cleared after every course - I take eating seriously and I leave no survivors :-)
